Did you know April is International Black Women’s History Month?
Sha Battle established April as International Black Women's History Month in 2016 in the city of Atlanta to uplift and support the achievements of Black women, and to build understanding and awareness of the contributions of Black women to the world. She was interested in creating something historic that would uplift Minority Women, so she created the Black Women In Jazz & The Arts Awards, and created March as International Black Women In Jazz & The Arts Month. Sha recounts seeing the same Black women celebrated during Black History Month and Women’s History Month. While researching for the Back Women in Jazz & the Arts Award, she discovered many little-known facts about Black women. Sha chose April to ensure Black women had a full month of recognition.
Today Sha is on a mission to get more states to adopt April as Black Women’s History Month. Thanks to Delegate Josh Cole, HJ 8 was signed into law in the state of Virginia and designates April 2024 and each succeeding year thereafter as Black Women’s History Month. Cincinnati, OH established April as Black Women’s History Month in 2023. Show your support by advocating to have your city or state formally recognize Black Women’s History Month.

It’s never too early or too late to start leading. In this episode, 25-year-old Blessing Adogame shows us that you can lead at any level of your career. This Global Citizen was raised in diverse cultures across Nigeria, Germany, Scotland, and the United States. When she began to flex her leadership muscles in college, she realized being a leader wasn’t new to her because she had learned leadership traits from her parents. While in college, Blessing wanted to increase the presence of students on LinkedIn and started a global community called Students of LinkedIn, which now has over 13,000 members. During the interview, Blessing reflects on her leadership journey and shares lessons learned from navigating a layoff and career pivot.

Welcome to the first episode of The F.L.O.W. (Fearlessly Leading Our Way) Podcast. In this episode, we're diving deep into the journey of Alana Ward Robinson, President and CEO of Robinson Consulting Group (RGC), Inc.
Tech is a male-dominated industry. Black women represent just 2.2% of the workforce, highlighting the need for greater diversity and inclusion efforts. Many find themselves as the first or only Black person or woman in their organizations. Alana brings a wealth of experience and insight to this topic, having blazed trails throughout her life and career.
From being the first Black woman in a programming position at the IBM Shreveport office to serving as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for multiple organizations, Alana knows firsthand the obstacles of navigating the tech industry as a Black woman.
In this episode, Alana shares her guiding principles for navigating a successful career, insights on pivoting from corporate to entrepreneurship, and key lessons learned on leadership. Her words of wisdom are both empowering and practical, reminding us to never let others define our limits and to find joy and peace in our work.

Welcome to the F.L.O.W. - Fearlessly Leading Our Way Podcast!
In the words of the great Shirley Chisholm, “If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” It’s time we redefine what it means to be a leader. We tend to define leaders and leadership within the context of a role or title, but we are all leaders. Sometimes we underestimate our abilities because are working in spaces where our skills are not recognized or valued.
In this episode, I dive into my journey navigating the tech industry as a Black woman. I know what it’s like to feel stuck and undervalued in your career. My leadership skills were always praised externally, but never within my field. Stay tuned for the official launch on International Women's Day, March 8, 2024. In each episode, we'll dive into candid discussions, unraveling the obstacles and nuances Black women leaders face in the workforce. From career growth strategies to embracing authenticity, we'll cover it all.
